School Re-engagement Workshop – A roadmap to successfully re-engaging students back into learning
As ex-Principal class staff, we present, interview, and speak on all things school refusal. We relate a lot to what we see in our client work at Can’t Face School, as well as bigger picture observations for systems change, whole school approaches, and community approaches to addressing this global school attendance epidemic.
Approaches to increasing school attendance involve a combination of addressing youth mental health problems as well as educational engagement. We will discuss collaborative approaches to understanding this and then road mapping solutions are important for governments, researchers, schools, and community organisations.
We talk about the causes of school refusal, the scale of the problem nationally to and globally, and what solutions can be implemented for parents, schools, and young people.
In order to unify our approaches nationally in dealing with school refusal and related issues, we must understand the density of school attendance expectations and what it takes for successful reengagement.
There are structures that must be in place before creating re-engagement plans. We present and discuss what these are, why they are important before goal setting, and relationship building techniques.
Our speaker will discuss effective strategies for reengaging students who are chronically absent or disengaged from school, focusing on building supportive relationships and creating inclusive, student-centered, realistic return to school plans.
They will also highlight successful case studies and practical approaches schools to and parents can implement to improve attendance and student participation.
